Beyonce’s Endorsement of Feminism Makes Me Cry

2014 MTV Video Music Awards - Fixed Show

At the recent VMAs, Beyonce puts front and center her political stance for all the world to see.  And as a feminist, I am deeply moved by this gesture by a 21th century icon of female empowerment.  Thank you, Beyonce!

Philosophy in Animal Advocacies: The Call for Stewardship

Wow! Just a fine example of an excellent reflection! Well done, Aileen:)

Through the extensive effort of the Philosophy Department and the student organization Pilosopo, the meaningful and enlightening discussion on the philosophy relative to the concept of animal advocacies was made possible. The big lecture was held last August 15, 2014 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium. The lecture was attended by different Philosophy classes coming from different colleges. Dr. Peracullo gave her remarks prior to the individual lectures of chosen esteemed speakers from the Philosophy Department.

The first lecture was entitled “Beauty in the Beasts: Philosophy and Images of Animal Cruelty”. It was facilitated by Ms. Laureen Velasco. Ms. Velasco started the lecture with a background of pre-existing theories on the existence of animals. Ms. Velasco gave emphasis on the contradicting theories of Rene Descartes and John Locke. According to Rene Descartes, animals are like “machines” for they don’t have any proof of intelligence. Furthermore…

How would someone recover from the horrors of his past?

Existence of imperfections, impurities and failures are barely inevitable dark segments of a human life. This fact is undeniable and no one in the entire universe has escaped from this irrefutable idea. We are all chained in this simple truth and we can never ever separate our own selves from this sense. Our own human power or strength whatsoever doesn’t have the capacity to overcome and win over this knowledge as if we were already born to experience these things. There is no way to escape so there is no reason for regrets and complains since all the people living in this world are ought to do and feel the same thing.   Thus, life can be referred to be a mystery because none of us can testify that he knows absolutely what…

Choose to Love Animals: A Review on the Philosophy in Animal Advocacies 2014

Love this, Monique!

My Views On the Aspect of Life

IMG_7215 “Philosophy Big Lectures: Animal Advocacies” held at the DLSU Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium              Selfie after the talks! :) Selfie after the talks! 🙂

Last August 15, 2014, our class attended the Philosophy Big Lectures: Animal Advocacies. I did not expect the talks to be so inspiring, interesting, and spiritually-moving; the fact that they were concerned on animals caught my attention. After the talks, I found myself wanting to volunteer at the nearest animal shelter. The three talks were meant to raise awareness on animals and how we must change our views on them—if ever we see them in a cruel way.

The first talk was entitled “Beauty in the Beasts: Philosophy & Images of Animal Cruelty” by Ms. Laureen Velasco. She emphasized on how animals were used in blood sports like dogfighting, fashion and accessories (animal fur), as laborers which were…

Essence of Existence

Featured Post: Den Ramos of INTFILO N04

Excellent reflection!

mythoughtsinabottle

The story of the Japanese anime movie, Eve No Jikan, revolves around the meaning of being human. After watching the movie, I can’t help but wonder questions about humanity. Why is difference or being different a huge conflict on humans?

The essence of humanity is to have diversity, just like how it is natural to have two different sexes, a male and a female. Difference may refer to contrasting perceptions, beliefs, values, physical attributes, and identities of human beings. Humans desire superiority and they want to surpass those who have dissimilar qualities or philosophies as them. If not superior, they want to be comparable or equal to the ideals of mankind. Those who are not equal to the caliber and standards of humans are often seen as inferiors. They are often treated immorally such as being stereotyped, discriminated, belittled, bullied and ignored in the society. That is why some people…

Excellent and Thoughtful Reflection from Rob Coloso of N04

QUESTIONS ABOUT BEING HUMAN.

Which is more important when making a decision the heart or the mind?

In terms of being human it is important to take into account every aspect of what a person thinks is right for him to do. Age doesn’t matter when it comes to being hard-headed, all of us believe in something that takes a toll when making a decision. Like Masakazu Masaki, over the pass years he became very strict with the laws of robotics, because of the tragic happening of he thought his own robot betrayed him by not speaking.
